As we head into a busy summer here in Dartmouth North, there is no shortage of exciting news to share — from major international sporting events coming to our shores, to important political developments happening across our province.
One story worth watching closely is the Nova Scotia Liberal Party MLA nomination race unfolding in Cape Breton. A by-election has been called for the newly created riding of Chéticamp-Margarees-Pleasant Bay — a protected Acadian district formed earlier this year following a recommendation from the provincial electoral boundaries commission. Election day is set for June 23rd, 2026, and the Liberal candidate is Denis Cormier. This by-election is a meaningful moment for our party: it is an opportunity to demonstrate Liberal strength in a region with deep Acadian and Cape Breton roots, and to show that our values of community, inclusion, and accountable government resonate across Nova Scotia. We encourage all members and supporters to follow this race closely and lend whatever support they can.
Beyond Cape Breton, eyes are also turning toward November 28th, 2026 — the date of the NS Liberal Party Leadership Convention. We now have our first official leadership candidate, Amanda Mombourquette, announced and meeting with communities across Nova Scotia. With candidate nominations closing on July 28th, the coming weeks will see the field of candidates take shape. This is our party’s chance to elect a bold, forward-looking leader who can take on the current government and deliver real results for Nova Scotians.
